MATH-TEACHER allows much flexibility in solving the problem. The previous section shows that the student can type many correct lines, since there is no one particular preferred way, or an ultimate correct way.
Sometimes the variations between the correct ways are
more substantial. Consider for example the following
problem in "Analytic Geometry 1", in which the
equation of a line passing through two given points
has to be found. The first task is to find the slope a
of the line y=ax+b. Now, in order to find the
equation, the student can do one of the two:
1. Find the coeffceint b using one point and the
slope a
2. Use the formula y-y1=a(x-x1) where (x1,y1) are the
coordinates of one of the given points.
MATH-TEACHER is capable of tracking each path and providing an immediate feedback. It allows students, who learn the same topic using different methods, to utilize the program efficiently.
